Manta’s FuelOpt to Power Chemship’s Chemical Tankers

Manta Marine Technologies (MMT) is making waves in the chemical tanker sector with a major contract to equip nine vessels operated by Chemship B.V. with its automated propulsion optimisation system, FuelOpt. This deal isn’t just another tech rollout—it’s a vote of confidence in the next generation of fuel-efficient shipping.

The contract follows a successful trial on Chemship’s vessel Chemical Challenger, where FuelOpt optimised the main engine and suction wings, proving its mettle in real-world conditions. Under the agreement, Chemship will also adopt Manta’s Fleet Analytics tool, a real-time performance monitoring system that delivers actionable insights and simplifies compliance with emissions regulations.

FuelOpt isn’t just another black box—it’s a dynamic system that automatically adjusts propulsion in real time, enhancing efficiency and reducing crew workload. Compatible with conventional and alternative fuels, it’s future-proofed for hybrid and wind-assisted propulsion systems, too. Manta claims the system delivers consistent efficiency improvements, regardless of external factors, while simplifying carbon emission reporting—a growing priority for shipowners.

Chemship B.V., a Netherlands-based chemical tanker operator, is no stranger to stringent quality and environmental standards. The company transports liquid bulk materials like chemicals, vegetable oils, and clean petroleum products under the watchful eye of oil and chemical majors. This deal signals a commitment to cutting-edge efficiency in a sector where fuel costs and emissions are under intense scrutiny.

Installation will begin with two Japanese-built multigrade vessels by the end of 2025, with the remaining tankers following in 2026. The rollout isn’t just about hardware—it’s about integrating data-driven decision-making into daily operations. Fleet Analytics collects and analyses high-frequency operational data, supporting compliance with frameworks like EU-MRV, EU-ETS, FuelEU Maritime, IMO-DCS, and CII.
