Switzerland-based turbocharger producer Accelleron and South Korea’s HD Hyundai Marine Solution, a marine technology provider, have inked a deal to supercharge the integration of ship management and optimization tools. This collaboration isn’t just about ticking boxes—it’s about driving real, measurable gains in efficiency and sustainability across fleets.
The agreement is a strategic play to blend Accelleron’s engine performance optimization system, LOREKA360° Tekomar XPERT Engine, and its Turbo Insights monitoring tool with HD Hyundai Marine Solution’s Integrated Smart Ship Solution (ISS 2.0) and AI-based emissions monitoring system, OceanWise. The goal? To create a seamless, data-driven ecosystem that boosts operational efficiency and cuts emissions.
Accelleron’s LOREKA360° system, designed to assess engine performance and offer onboard advisory, has already been deployed on around 100 vessels within Hyundai Marine Solutions’ user pool. But this is just the beginning. With Hyundai’s licenses—both in-service units and newbuilds—the number could surge to approximately five hundred ships. This scale isn’t just impressive; it’s a game-changer for fleet-wide performance optimization.
Turbo Insights, a digital analytics solution that verifies performance during ship tests and sea trials, is set to play a crucial role in this partnership. As Accelleron’s representatives highlighted, “The application of Turbo Insights is anticipated to support sustainability and cost reduction goals.” This tool isn’t just about data—it’s about turning insights into actionable strategies that cut costs and reduce environmental impact.
On the other side of the equation, HD Hyundai Marine Solution’s OceanWise leverages big data and AI algorithms to suggest optimal routes based on a vessel’s current location. The aim? To slash fuel consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. As per the South Korean marine technology player, “The system’s practical application was verified through a previous arrangement with HD Hyundai Oilbank, starting in April 2024.” This isn’t theoretical—it’s proven.
The deployment of OceanWise on commercial vessels, including SK Shipping’s 318,000 dwt crude oil carrier C.Brave, marks a significant milestone. As Offshore Energy reported earlier, OceanWise was deployed “for the first time ever” on domestic commercial vessels in February this year. This real-world application underscores the potential of AI-driven solutions to transform maritime operations.
This partnership between Accelleron and HD Hyundai Marine Solution is more than a collaboration—it’s a blueprint for the future of maritime technology. By integrating advanced digital tools and AI-driven systems, the two companies are setting a new standard for efficiency, sustainability, and cost reduction in the maritime industry. As the sector grapples with the challenges of decarbonization and operational excellence, this alliance could very well be the spark that ignites a wave of innovation and transformation.
