Anglo-Eastern Unveils LNG/Ammonia Training Skid for Greener Shipping

Anglo-Eastern, the maritime training powerhouse, has just pulled back the curtain on a game-changer in the world of maritime training. The unveiling of a new LNG/Ammonia bunkering station skid at their Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy (AEMA) in Karjat, Mumbai, during the 2025 Mumbai Conference, is more than just a new facility—it’s a bold step towards a greener, safer maritime future. This isn’t just about adding another tool to the toolbox; it’s about equipping the industry with the skills needed to navigate the complex world of alternative marine fuels.

The skid, a marvel of modern engineering, is designed to give industry professionals a hands-on taste of the real deal. We’re talking about safe and efficient fuelling of LNG- and ammonia-powered vessels, complete with the latest cryogenic fuelling technology and safety systems. This isn’t just about learning the ropes; it’s about mastering them in a controlled environment that mimics real-world operations. From emergency response procedures to regulatory compliance, this facility is set to become the gold standard for training in the rapidly expanding field of alternative marine fuels.

Alexander Saverys, CEO at CMB.TECH, who inaugurated the facility, didn’t mince words when he toasted to “the future of shipping”. He recognised the urgent need for more companies to step up and invest in such initiatives. As he put it, “we need more companies to step up and acknowledge the necessity to pursue such initiatives if we are to ensure adequate talent pools in the run-up to net zero emissions by 2050”. This isn’t just about ticking boxes; it’s about ensuring that the maritime industry has the talent it needs to meet its ambitious environmental goals.

Capt. Aalok Sharma, Group Director of Training at Anglo-Eastern, echoed this sentiment, stating that “we are thrilled to introduce this LNG/Ammonia bunkering station skid as part of our commitment to shaping the future of maritime fuel safety and efficiency. As the industry transitions toward sustainable fuels, the need for well-trained professionals has never been greater. This new facility will equip maritime personnel with the knowledge and hands-on experience required to meet the challenges of LNG and ammonia bunkering.” This isn’t just about keeping up with the times; it’s about setting the pace.

But Anglo-Eastern isn’t stopping there. The week also saw the inauguration of a new ME GI Training facility at the Anglo-Eastern MAN PrimeServ training facility at Anglo-Eastern Maritime Training Centre (AEMTC Mumbai). This new facility, built for Mk 2 ME GI engines, is designed to demonstrate important aspects of engine operations, giving course participants a leg up in carrying out maintenance and safe operation of ME GI Engines onboard. This further strengthens Anglo-Eastern’s partnership with MAN Energy Solutions, a collaboration that has been going strong since 2003.

So, what does this mean for the future of the maritime industry? It’s clear that Anglo-Eastern is not just keeping up with the times; they’re setting the pace. This investment in training is a clear signal that the industry is serious about reducing carbon emissions and enhancing operational safety. It’s a call to action for other players in the industry to step up and invest in the future. As the maritime world continues to evolve, initiatives like these will be crucial in shaping a safer, more sustainable future. The question is, who will follow suit? The ball is in their court.
