Norway’s Mintra has taken a significant stride in maritime e-learning by acquiring Greek digital training specialist SQLearn. This move underscores Mintra’s commitment to supporting the maritime sector’s transition to digital learning and competency management. The acquisition adds scale and depth to Mintra’s portfolio, merging its global software platforms with SQLearn’s robust presence in Greece and its extensive library of STCW-approved courses.
Mintra already serves the industry through its Trainingportal and OCS HR systems, which are instrumental in learning delivery, workforce management, and compliance tracking across fleets worldwide. SQLearn, established in 2006 and headquartered in Piraeus, has solidified its position as one of Greece’s leading maritime training providers. Its in-house Learning Management System (LMS) and course library, covering safety, security, environmental regulations, soft skills, and vetting preparation, support over 1,000 vessels, 50,000 seafarers, and 150 shipping companies.
The synergy between Mintra and SQLearn is expected to create a more robust offering for shipowners and managers in Greece while also extending SQLearn’s content and tools to Mintra’s international customer base. “I am excited about the opportunities this acquisition creates for SQLearn,” said Spyros Goumas, CEO of SQLearn. “With Mintra powering our Greek-developed products while offering international reach, we foresee enormous benefits for shipowners and seafarers alike.”
Kevin Short, CEO of Mintra, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We believe that SQLearn’s proven products and local expertise will help us deliver greater value in Greece and beyond.” This acquisition is part of Mintra’s ongoing expansion in maritime digital learning, following its acquisition of Safebridge in 2021 and Seably in 2023.
With SQLearn now part of its portfolio, Mintra aims to accelerate the adoption of digital training, enhance crew competence tools, and assist shipping companies in managing regulatory demands and fleet-wide safety performance. This strategic move not only strengthens Mintra’s position in the maritime e-learning sector but also highlights the growing importance of digital transformation in the industry. As the maritime sector continues to evolve, the integration of SQLearn’s expertise and resources into Mintra’s global platform is poised to drive significant advancements in digital learning and competency management.
