The recent inauguration of TCCS Marine Sdn Bhd’s maritime training institute marks a pivotal advancement in Malaysia’s maritime training ecosystem, according to Dickson Dollah, the director-general of the Marine Department. As such, modern training institutes equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and expert instructors are essential rather than optional. At a course completion event, approximately 50 trainees successfully concluded courses in various specializations, including Engineering and Navigation Watchkeeping Officers as well as Master and Chief Mate courses for vessels over 3,000 GT.
The director-general commended the graduates, highlighting their responsibilities not only in ship operations but also in ensuring safety, protecting the marine environment, adhering to legalities, and enhancing Malaysia’s maritime reputation. Additionally, he launched the TCCS Marine Simulator Centre, a critical initiative designed to improve training effectiveness. Simulator-based training enables trainees to engage in realistic operational scenarios in a controlled setting, honing essential skills such as decision-making, risk management, and leadership.
Dollah reiterated the department’s commitment to supporting and promoting modern training technologies like simulators. Established on October 30, 2023, TCCS Marine Sdn Bhd is a Marine Department-approved training institution that adheres to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and is ISO 9001:2015 certified. The institution is dedicated to producing competent, disciplined, and internationally recognized marine officers. So far, it has received approval for 23 courses, conducted 129 training programs, and trained nearly 1,090 participants, reflecting its commitment to delivering quality training and fostering industry growth.
